What runes are
The Elder Futhark is a 24-symbol alphabet used across Germanic Europe before the Latin alphabet replaced it. Each rune is both a letter and a concept: Fehu is wealth and cattle, Uruz is strength and a wild ox, Algiz is protection. Divination with runes uses that second layer of meaning.
