Glossary
Orb
How many degrees an aspect is from exact. The smaller the orb, the stronger the aspect.
Definition
If Venus is at 10° Taurus and Mars at 14° Leo, they are 94° apart: a square with a 4° orb. Astrologers allow a range around each exact angle; outside it, no aspect is counted.
Typical orbs
| Aspect | Common orb |
|---|---|
| Conjunction, opposition | 8° (10° with Sun or Moon) |
| Square, trine | 6–8° |
| Sextile | 4–6° |
| Quincunx | 2–3° |
Applying aspects (planets moving toward exact) are traditionally read as stronger than separating ones.

Common questions
What orb does Astrool use?
Standard orbs widened slightly for the Sun and Moon. Each aspect shows its exact orb.
Is a 0° orb aspect special?
