Aspects in Astrology
The angles planets make to each other, which describe whether their energies cooperate, compete or merge.
Definition
An aspect is a specific angular distance between two points in a chart, measured along the zodiac. Planets in aspect influence each other; planets not in aspect work more independently.
The major aspects
| Aspect | Angle | Nature |
|---|---|---|
| Conjunction | 0° | Fusion, intensity |
| Sextile | 60° | Opportunity, easy cooperation |
| Square | 90° | Tension, drive to act |
| Trine | 120° | Harmony, natural talent |
| Opposition | 180° | Polarity, awareness through others |
| Quincunx | 150° | Adjustment, awkward fit |
Orbs
Planets rarely sit at exact angles. The allowed deviation is the orb; the tighter the orb, the stronger the aspect.
Aspects within one chart describe your inner dynamics; aspects between two charts are the core of synastry; aspects from moving planets are transits.

Common questions
Are hard aspects bad?
