Lunar Phase at Birth
The angle between the Sun and Moon when you were born sets the Moon's phase, and astrologers read it as your basic rhythm of approaching life.
The eight phases
| Phase | Sun–Moon angle | Approach |
|---|---|---|
| New Moon | 0–45° | Instinctive, starting fresh, opening new paths |
| Crescent | 45–90° | Pushing forward against the old |
| First quarter | 90–135° | Action, building, crisis-driven |
| Gibbous | 135–180° | Refining, analysing, perfecting |
| Full Moon | 180–225° | Relationships, awareness, public life |
| Disseminating | 225–270° | Teaching, sharing what was learned |
| Last quarter | 270–315° | Reorienting, letting go of old forms |
| Balsamic | 315–360° | Endings, wisdom, preparing the next cycle |
In practice
People born near a new Moon tend to open new paths on instinct; people born near a full Moon come alive in relationships and public life. In the Vedic calendar, the same angle defines the tithi.
