Lunar Nodes (North and South Node)
Two points where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic. Astrology reads them as an axis from where you come from to where you are heading.
Definition
The Moon's orbit is tilted about 5° to the ecliptic. The two crossing points are the lunar nodes: the North Node (ascending, ☊) and the South Node (descending, ☋), always exactly opposite. They move backward through the zodiac, completing a cycle in about 18.6 years. Eclipses happen near them.
Meaning
| Node | Reads as |
|---|---|
| South Node | Where you come from: natural talents, comfortable habits, the past |
| North Node | Where you are going: growth, purpose, the unfamiliar but meaningful |
The nodes are the backbone of the Past Life & Karma report. In Vedic astrology they are Rahu and Ketu.
Nodal returns
The nodes return to their birth position around ages 18–19, 37, 56 and 74, often coinciding with turning points in direction.

Common questions
Are the lunar nodes planets?
No. They are mathematical points, but they are treated as important as planets in both Western and Vedic astrology.
Should I live my South Node or my North Node?
Both: the South Node is your foundation, the North Node the direction you grow toward.
