Nakshatra
Twenty-seven segments of the sky, each 13°20' wide, which the Moon passes through roughly one per day. Your birth nakshatra is the finer grain of your Moon sign.
Definition
The zodiac is divided into 27 nakshatras (lunar mansions), each named after a star group and ruled by a planet and a deity. The Janma nakshatra is the one the Moon occupied at birth. It describes inner nature in finer detail than the sign, and it decides where your dasha sequence begins.
Structure
| Number | 27 (sometimes 28 with Abhijit) |
|---|---|
| Width | 13°20' each |
| Subdivisions | 4 padas of 3°20' |

Natures
Each nakshatra belongs to a group that says what it suits: fixed (foundations), movable (travel, change), fierce (bold action), mixed (routine), swift (trade, learning), soft (love, art) or sharp (endings, firm decisions). The Panchang uses these to judge each day.
