Exaltation and Debilitation
Each planet has a sign where it is at its best (exalted) and the opposite sign where it struggles (debilitated).
The table
| Planet | Exalted | Debilitated | Own sign |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sun | Aries | Libra | Leo |
| Moon | Taurus | Scorpio | Cancer |
| Mars | Capricorn | Cancer | Aries, Scorpio |
| Mercury | Virgo | Pisces | Gemini, Virgo |
| Jupiter | Cancer | Capricorn | Sagittarius, Pisces |
| Venus | Pisces | Virgo | Taurus, Libra |
| Saturn | Libra | Aries | Capricorn, Aquarius |
An exalted planet gives its results generously; a debilitated one with difficulty, unless cancelled (neecha bhanga). The Vedic Birth Chart report marks each planet as exalted, debilitated or in its own sign.

Common questions
Is a debilitated planet always bad?
No. Neecha bhanga rules can cancel debilitation and even turn it into a strength.
Do Western astrologers use exaltation?
Yes; the same signs are used in traditional Western astrology.
