Rashi (Moon Sign)
The sidereal sign the Moon was in at birth. In Jyotish it matters more than the Sun sign: it is the mind, the emotions and the basis for daily forecasts.
Definition
Rashi means "sign"; in everyday use it means the Janma Rashi, the Moon's sign at birth. Indian newspaper horoscopes are written by Rashi, not by Sun sign.
What it is used for
- Daily and yearly forecasts (Gochar) are counted from the Rashi
- Sade Sati is timed from it
- Guna Milan matching uses the Moon's Rashi and nakshatra
- The name syllable traditionally chosen for a child comes from the nakshatra pada
