Imum Coeli (IC)

The point directly beneath your feet at birth: the base of the chart, describing home, family, roots and the private self.

Imum Coeli (IC)

Definition

The Imum Coeli (Latin for "bottom of the sky") is where the ecliptic crosses the meridian below the horizon. It is opposite the Midheaven and forms the cusp of the 4th house in quadrant systems.

What it describes

Where you come from and where you retreat to: family patterns, the home you grew up in and the one you build, ancestry, emotional foundations and, traditionally, the end of life. Planets near the IC work privately and powerfully.

IC lines

On an astrocartography map, IC lines mark places where a planet was underfoot at your birth. They are read for home, family and putting down roots.
