Midheaven (MC)
The point of the zodiac culminating overhead at your birth: your public face, vocation and the reputation you build over a lifetime.
Definition
The Midheaven, from Latin medium coeli ("middle of the sky"), is where the ecliptic crosses the meridian above your birthplace. It sits at the top of most chart wheels and marks the cusp of the 10th house in quadrant house systems.
What it describes
- Career and vocation, what you want to be known for
- Public image and reputation
- Ambition, status and authority
- Often one parent, traditionally the more public one
MC lines on the map
In astrocartography, a planet on the MC line is at the top of the sky at your birth moment. Living near a Sun, Jupiter or Venus MC line is classically linked with visibility and career success.
Opposite point
The MC's opposite is the Imum Coeli, the root of the chart. Together they form the home–career axis.

Common questions
Is the Midheaven always in the 10th house?
In quadrant systems like Placidus it is the 10th house cusp. In whole-sign houses it can fall in the 9th, 10th or 11th house.
What if I do not know my birth time?
The MC moves about a degree every four minutes, so it cannot be calculated reliably without a time.
