Rahu Kaal
One eighth of the daylight hours, ruled by Rahu, when tradition advises against starting anything new.
How it is calculated
Divide the time from local sunrise to sunset into eight equal parts. Rahu Kaal is one of them, fixed by weekday: the 2nd part on Monday, 7th on Tuesday, 5th on Wednesday, 6th on Thursday, 4th on Friday, 3rd on Saturday and 8th on Sunday. With a 6 am sunrise and 6 pm sunset, each part is 90 minutes, so Monday's Rahu Kaal runs 7:30–9:00 am.
| Day | Part of daylight | Approx. with 6am–6pm day |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 2nd | 7:30–9:00 |
| Tuesday | 7th | 15:00–16:30 |
| Wednesday | 5th | 12:00–13:30 |
| Thursday | 6th | 13:30–15:00 |
| Friday | 4th | 10:30–12:00 |
| Saturday | 3rd | 9:00–10:30 |
| Sunday | 8th | 16:30–18:00 |
What to avoid
Starting new work, signing, purchases or journeys. Carrying on with what you already began is fine. Astrool can remind you 15 minutes before it begins; see the Panchang.
