Muhurta
A unit of 48 minutes, and the whole art of choosing a good moment to begin something.
Two meanings
As a unit, a muhurta is 1/30 of a day, 48 minutes; daylight holds 15 and night 15, each with a name and quality. As a practice, muhurta is electional astrology: choosing the moment for a wedding, griha pravesh (house-warming), business opening or journey using the tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga, karana and the Lagna of the moment.
The simplest muhurta rule is to start in Abhijit and avoid Rahu Kaal, both shown in the Panchang.
